The drum and bell tower represent the initiation of all ritual activity into the imperial ceremonial complex including the Imperial Tombs, the Beihei Pleasure Park, the Forbidden City, and the Temple of Heaven. The symbolism of this initiation represents the activation of inborn potential stored as the Reserve Qi accumulated within the Kidneys. The large bell in the second picture depicts these ideas as one of the names of the points of acupuncture-K4, "Big Bell."
